De plaaaay, de plaaaaaaaay, boss!
Every year the JET community in Fukui puts on a small play. It is open to the general public and is somehow done in both English and Japanses. The play was performed this last weekend & it was really great. Unfortunately, my starring, 5-line, part got cut from the play (boo hoo, tear)- yes, yes, my brilliant ACT-ing talent will be overlooked yet again. Oh well... there's always reality TV.
So, the story, as I mentioned, was a mix of Japanese folk tales, pop culture and English folk tales.
It went like this...
hmmm... actually, I don't really feel like typing this all out... its rather long. Basically Hello Kitty and Domo-kun (a kids show character) go on a quest to find a family & must complete some tasks. They help the 3 little pigs (and defend them from Gundam), help the pirate Luffy (from the anime Onepiece), solve a riddle, defeat the evil Momo-Potter (Momo-taro is a Japanese folk tale hero, kind of like Herculese, so this was a mix of Momo-taro and, you guessed it, Harry Potter) and find a place to live. Very cute & the kids in the audience loved it. A good time was had by all... at the bar after the play.

(L-R)
Domo-kun, Kitty-chan, 3 Pigs & Doraemon (comic relief & Japanese translator)

(L-R) Doreamon, Kitty-chan, Luffy & Domo-kun taking the pirate oath to help Luffy find the treasure.

Everyone doing the chicken dance at the end of the play. EVERYBODY DANCE!!!!! YAY!!!!
Crazy Japanese pop-culture... and I thought I'd seen it all.
The weeks to come...
Today is a bit slow so I actually have time to write! Woo Hoo! I know that I've been promising updates for a while so, since today I have NOTHTING to do.. I'll load this sucker up with updates & posts and goodies for all. Yay.
The main news is that it's the end of May, and I've got about 2 months left here in the ole Nihon. I can hardly believe that time has passed by so quickly! I can still remember sitting in my apartment in Novermber wondering how this year was going to go... and now its almost the end. I will be trying to make the most of things in these last few months so I have loads of stuff planned. For those interested (and not! too bad!), here's a little bit of the itinerary:
* This weekend: Tokyo-A-Go-Go part Deux: Back with a Keitai! Yes, yes, this time hopefully the weather will be better! I'm super happy fun wish shock excited to be finally going. Oh the shopping!
* Next weekend: Return to Kyoto (and Osaka?)- revisiting the historic town- again, hopefully the weather will be better (instead of sickeningly hot & humid!)
* J-Cooking with the host fam! Prepare yourselves back home for my J-culinary masterpieces! Who wants some red bean paste, raw fish & fermented beans?! MMM-MMMM, kiddies!
*JET softball game- should be interesting... if not there is always sunflower seeds & beer in the dugout. Yay organized sports.
* J-Baseball!- Seeing an exhibition game between the Hiroshima Toyo Carp and the Hanshin (Osaka area) Tigers! Most people in my prefecture (we don't have a pro-ball team) support the Tigers. They won last year's championship game & are still one of the top teams in all of Japan.
* Yokohama trip/ Nano Mugen CONCERTO!- This will DEF be a highlight of my year... if you haven't yet heard, Asian Kung-Fu Generation kicks some serious rock butt and they will be the headliners for the Nano Mugen Concert in Yokohama, WHICH I will be seeing the weekend before I leave- PSYCHED! ALSO- Ellegarden (who rocks equally hard) will be playing on the day that I go. Word.

So, those are the big plans. Pretty sweet, yougais. The intermittent time will most likely be spent in hip hop class (last glimpses of my dear Fuji-san-sensei...sigh, swoon), at the driving range (desperately trying to master that damn 7&5), dinner clubs,
GHOST Squad training (yeah... yeah! I got my card!)

, gym (feel the burn! no pain, no pain!) and uh... uh... other stuff I guess. We shall see...
So, until after Tokyo~ Sayonara!
